My nephew had the exact same experience! Against his parents wishes, he snuck out of the house and went with his friend to see an Everything Is Terrible film festival!
Three exorcisms later, he is still a messed up little dude.
Not so sure a horror movie is just a bunch of red/blue lights with funny noises in the background.
