  5. The last time I went on a journey to "the other side of the mirror" like that, ayahuasca was involved. Pretty accurate.

  7. The kid gets a gift and the first thing out of her mouth is "Why?"

Christmas must've been real fun over at the Hugga Bunch house.

    and poo."

  19. This could be a great research study on how schizophrenia is genetic.

Grandma had it, so it skipped a generation and now she has it.

    Poor kid.

  26. This is my favorite vid of the year, so far. You're going to have to work extra hard to one-up this one, EIT.

  27. That's the little girl from The Secret Garden!

The one with Bastien, not the weird one with the blonde children who were related.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I never stopped laughing after it came out of the mirror. Comedy gold.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I hadn't seen that video since the first grade. Thanks, guys for bringing back all those horrible memories I tried for years to suppress.

  30. Wait, so how does it end?
I agree with the anonymous assessment of it seeming like the ending of Twin Peaks.

But it's a little kid in a movie about hugs. (Devil hugs, maybe, but it's still a kid's movie.)

HOW DOES THIS END? I REFUSE to believe this is the end.
Can you have a part 2? Pleeeeeeeeeeease?

  31. I always thought those doll were creepy

  32. GAH! I Thought this was a dream I had, I totally remember seeing that creepy doll poke its face through the mirror. File that childhood memory mystery under SOLVED. Now I just have to figure out where that alligator eating a ballerina came from.

  33. i understand this girls plight. i too want to share my hugs with the sick and the elderly and i too am friends with a troll i see in my mirror.

  34. "And you just sit their eating space nuggets like nothing's happening!"

    ReplyDelete
  35. one of the best ever. keep it up.

  36. I echo the sentiment that there needs to be a part two! I, too, had strange, latent memories of this for years and could never recall what exactly they were from. After I watched this clip I looked up the whole movie on Youtube and realized it was so much more effed up than remembered.

There's a priceless scene where the girl tells the witch - who's castle she has just broken into - that she won't kneel for her because she's an "American citizen" and Americans don't have to kneel for "nobody." She then immediately proceeds to ask if she can take (ie. steal) some of her berries and when is denied they decide to steal them anyway, and in the process end up killing the witch.

I couldn't believe such propaganda (ie. "I'm an American and if I need something I will break into your kingdom and take it whether you let me or not. And no, I don't have to show you any respect because Americans are clearly superior to the rest of the word") was so blatantly thrown in to a children's program about hugging dolls! xD Maybe I'm reading way too into it but my mind is still blown by that whole scene.

  37. Oh, and the latent memory was definitely the part where the doll gets thrown in the washer. Awesome.

  38. Man, me and my sister used to watch the video all the time when we were kids. So creepy. Thanks for bring back the memories eit!

  44. "You've been a good girl!" "Not THAT good..."
"My insides are squishy, but they'll dry out."
Dear God...the demons will hug me to death in my sleep. o_o

  45. between the video and the comments - I've totally sharted. thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I adored this as a child...how did I not see how creepy it was when I was four years old and everything was creepy?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am so happy you found this, EIT. One of my last-ever visits to the local video store was to watch this video for the first time since second grade. You have deftly summarized why I felt that any very young child who dares watch this movie will be scarred for life.

As far as the real ending, they get back to the girl's room through the mirror with the aforementioned stolen berries that make people young (good work finding the subtext there that I'd totally missed, Mo). However - and this was kind of a shocking twist for a little kids' movie - said berries are lost along the way. Fortunately, Grandma is saved by... you'll never guess. Yeah, that's right - HUGGING!!!

And yes, the baseball cap is a plot point, though not a very big one. However, the difference between a hat and a computer had to be stated to the mirrorworld demon doll thing.
