THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAFFIC JAM

  1. Oh 1980. When you could take a bunch of tv actors, create some silly dramatic premise, layer on the cheese and good feelings, and voilĂ ! Ensemble piece that would kill a few hours until the local news came on at 11.

Wow, Abe Vigoda, Wink Martindale, Desi Arnaz, Vic Tayback, Ed MacMahon, Rue McLanahan, Lyle Waggoner, Marcia Wallace... Classic

And I had such a crush on John Beck (the Dallas/Rollerball guy) growing up. Thanks for the trip back to my tv-infused childhood EIT!

  2. The LA Freeway! Now there's ample material to make into a movie!

  4. I'll bet this is the kind of VHS tape that you would find in the $5 and under value-bin at your local retailer.

The VHS box cover probably had big-headed caricatures of the actors crashing miniature cars into each other on a cartoonish freeway.

The "big-headed caricature" was a government mandated requirement for all "madcap ensemble entertainment" during the 1980's and was not repealed until 1993. The covers served as a disclaimer to let a mother know that it was OK to purchase for your kids to watch on an excessively hot weekday summer morning.

  5. Does it seem to anyone else that the captcha code photos are all taken from small inns around Eastern Europe where the men wear long galoshes everyday and seem to always walk their dogs along the muddy roads?

  6. It kinda sucks that generations of children can no longer wake up at 2AM and see a film like this on a cable channel. So many cable channels have original programming that they replay over and over again.

Where can I see the "Midnight Madness," "Summer School" or "Thank God it's Friday" films of the world anymore?

Those were the summer days when you would get bored playing some ball game that you made up in the Family Room and would watch TV with your brothers for so long that you would get a headache.

    Anyone else?
