Hello! For my first post as a guest blogger I would love to present "The Mouseketeers Escape to Splash Mountain." 30 Live action Disney TV Specials from the 70's/80's in 30 minutes. All the material was taped off of television and features a ridiculous cavalcade of celebrities, enjoy!
part 1:
part 2:
Most of these I can get thru but, wow, that was rough!
ReplyDeleteGreat find!
This has to be considered EIT's epic. This is their "Gone With the Wind."
ReplyDelete1. There were some good drugs in the '80s.
ReplyDelete2. Haha. "I don't do port holes."
3. The Drew/Danny scene was endearing until the Stranger Danger overlay. I has a sad now.
Kudos to our guest blogger.
I thought that was going to be a long almost-half-hour, but that was pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteI hate Disney... I... I really do.
ReplyDeletebest. first post as a guest blogger. ever.
ReplyDeletealso the very very end made me shit my brain. what?
Splash mountain rap is kinda dope.
ReplyDeleteWhy'd you put the whole Geppetto song in there? I'm sad and terrified, it's like a bad acid trip.
ReplyDeleteThat was just incredible. I was worried at first when I saw how long it was, but that was time well-spent. Great find.
ReplyDeleteThe first 53 seconds of the first was my childhood in cast-list form.
ReplyDeleteJim Varney riding a log-flume on life support: an image I will hold dear to my heart forever.
ReplyDeleteThe Brown vs. Board of Education joke made this.
ReplyDeleteWow, half the celebrities in this video are dead, even the ones who wouldn't be that old today. Disney conspiracy?
ReplyDeleteExcellent collection of tapes, though. It really shows how to bring out one's inner asshole by pretending to be hip.
I remember watching almost all of these on tv. And possibly even enjoying them. D:
ReplyDeleteGod I'm old.
EIT - you guys outdid yourselves! This is the best of all your material! I am a proud Disneyphile myself!
ReplyDeleteThis is easily among the best things ever posted on this blog. Guest win.
ReplyDeleteThose giant babies freaked me out. Especially with those giant shoes.
ReplyDeleteI'm so ashamed of myself.
i've been following EIT! for a solid two years now, and have never found a real reason to comment.
ReplyDeletethis. is. your. opus.
and it came from a guest blogger?!?!?
i can't even fathom how much time you spent sorting through footage, dante. you fuckin' outdid yourself!
This is most terrible.
ReplyDeleteThat was... amazing!
ReplyDeleteBravo!
not even in a Snow White suit would I touch Joanie.
ReplyDeleteI never did get a chance at the festival to say how awesome this was...it was fucking awesome. Searing pain and acid reign!
ReplyDeleteAmazing!
ReplyDeleteI didn't want it to end honestly.
This was so great. Why aren't celebrities forced to do these types of things anymore? Now we have celebrity reality shows, but they are hollow and soulless. Ok, this was hollow and soulless too, but it was all covered in a layer of cheese that made it so enjoyable. I miss the forced camraderie and shallowness that permeated shows like these.
ReplyDeleteThat was terrible. All of it. Everything in it was terrible. Everything IS terrible.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! You guys didn't overdo the editing, you just let the cheese speak for itself. Disney was really proud of "Song of the South" in those days, weren't they?
ReplyDeleteDisney would never do half of this stuff today. It would be considered borderline racist, sexist and even pedophilia.
The scenes with "Blair", for example. Her fliting with older guys would be taboo for today's Disney.
I have to admit she was a little hottie, even if it makes me sound like a perv!
jesus that gepetto song is absolutely unsettling. who thought that was a good idea?
ReplyDeleteI know it is cheesy but I found this really touching and moving. It reminded me of times, places, and people I will never see again. This is what I grew up on and the world will never be this great ever again. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteand that great tribute to the gay coal miners of America, keep reaching for that rainbow!
ReplyDeleteMy God, I remember so much of this from my childhood. It felt like Walt Disney World used to do these specials twice a year. Imagine: a whole television special dedicated to the opening of *one ride*! Now they can't even get this excited about the Magic Kingdom expansion.
ReplyDeleteFuck. Now all I want to do is search through my VHSs and watch Disney specials.
ReplyDeleteFantastic editing job, probably the best post on EIT in a while. Even with all the cheese and hilarity there was tons of great nostalgia and childhood memories in this. Kudos Fontana.
