This kid is the worst.
And! I just re-edited
this movie for a song by Boozwa.
Starring a one-armed kung fu master (who also wrote and directed the movie) and an old blind man who wields my favorite martial arts weapon of all time, the flying guillotine.
If you happen to live in Austin, TX, Boozwa will be perfoming sample-heavy music next on Wednesday, May 18
at Plush ATX with DIBIASE and some other DJ/dub/electronic folks.
Wow, that kid WAS the worst! The mismatched yet empty eyes, the snaggled overbite and chapped lips, the casual cruelty to the rat...who thought that would be a good idea? Demon, indeed.
ReplyDeleteas a kid i watched indian in the cupboard only to hate the shit out of that kid.
ReplyDeletethat kid.... is a robot. true fact.
ReplyDeleteConfucius Says: In the pet store of the blind, the one-armed-man is king.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I rather like this movie. One of the notable smart kid films of the '90s. You did an excellent job uncovering the creepy "A God Am I" subtext that was lurking just below the surface.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I go looking up the kid's current identity on IMDB...
(Turns out he went nowhere after this. Here I was absolutely certain I was looking at a really young Shia LeBoef.)
bahaha I remember that movie.
ReplyDeleteThe close-up shots of that kid's face KILLS ME. He looks like Quasimodo, Batboy, and like, a sloth had a threeway and by some medical miracle produced a child that went on to star in this film.
ReplyDeletewho knew Obama was an animal lover?
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine worked on that movie set. The kid went nowhere as an actor because he was awful. Couldn't hit his marks, for one. Just bad at the craft.
ReplyDeleteShitty Indian in the Cupboard movie aside, thanks for the Boozwa vid. I'm way into that kind of music and am usually charmed by old campy martial arts films. What we have here is kind of a poor man's version of that Chemical Brothers video for Get Yourself High.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen indian in the cupboard but WOW
ReplyDeleteAlso that boozwa song was awesome!
Nice swastika on the beardy-guy
ReplyDeleteMan. I remember watching Indian in the Cupboard (and reading the book) in school. I did not remember how much I want to punch that kid in his misshapen maw. And kicking the rat made me so unhappy. :(
ReplyDeleteBut that Boozwa video cheered me right up. Freakin' awesome, and I just was listening to a review of that movie...
Master of the Flying Guillotine is the Citizen Kane of vintage kung fu films...soundtrack by NEU! exploitable elements galore, and a Screenplay by *Mario Puzo. What more could you ask for in a kung fu film? Also, adding to the already immeasurable list of nazi atrocities was the (mis)use of the svastika, a sacred symbol in eastern religions such as buddhism and hinduism.
ReplyDelete*That last one might not be true...
OMG, I remember that movie! so terrifying seeing it again.
