4-MINUTE JUPITER MENACE!

I like to think of The Tubes video, which is inexplicably tacked on the end of this tape, as the afterlife.

  1. If my fragile little existance is going to come to an abrupt end, I would want it to be because of Jupiter's Bumpin' and Grindin'.

  2. Didn't Battlefield Earth come out in the year 2000? So I guess they were at least half right about the global cataclysm.

  4. That Tubes video was on the end of the Monty Python at the Hollywood Bowl video I rented back when I was in high school. What the hell is that guy doing with that squid at the end?

  5. Best EIT video of 2010! The bar has been raised very high with this one.

  6. "...destruction...and death." And eyeliner. And mustaches. Many, many mustaches.

  7. If anyone's curious the militants shown in this video had their compound raided in 1985 and its leaders were arrested.

I believe they disbanded after that, but I could be remembering things wrong.

  8. To explain, The Tubes were one of the first bands to release video 'albums' (this was pre-MTV) and promos for their video (cleverly titled "Video") were common at the end of tapes back in those days before the end of the world.

  9. Hey! It's actor George Kennedy -- the Breathasure spokesman!

  10. What? No 2012??!! I figured the guy in the eyeliner wouldve mentioned that much!

And watching this, in my opinion, made Cormac McCarthy's The Road look like a 3 Stooges short! Thanks!

  12. So, the music underneath the opening credits (based on the few seconds we hear) is a paraphrase (just rewritten enough to not incur royalties) of "Mars, Bringer of War" from Gustav Holst's The Planets, even though the video is about Jupiter. Presumably "Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity" didn't strike quite the right tone.

  13. Brilliant. I think I just had a cataclysmic event in my pants.

  14. Early contender for best EIT of the year.

Scary these rightwing nutbars are still around and looking for another excuse for apocalypse: 2012, the IPCC, Mexicans, etc. Any excuse to justify a fascist post-crash dystopia... I mean, to wear kohl.

  15. I kept expecting eyeliner boy to say "You have failed us, Torgo. For this you die!"

  16. Aabra: Now that you mention it...! Needs Torgo music, too.

  17. You know what would have made the ending of this even more fitting than "The Tubes Video"? If you also included that lengthy crawl of titles "Also Available from Thorn EMI Video" with the bad elevator music. Now THAT Would have been Terrible!

  18. Fee and the boys WERE the future.

  19. "where they will wait in their ship, until it's safe to return. then they will start their community.....and call it Philadelphia".

Yep, knew it. That's where the apocalypse starts.....makes total sense.

  20. I just want a clip of that psychic, his eyes are so dreamy. Any chance of finding out more about him? He's totally got a Rasputin vibe to him.

  21. Hey, W. Bush was elected in 2000. Let's not be too hasty to judge.

  22. Jupiter...bumping and grinding with Uranus...Not so big of a surprise there.

4 minutes of the most insane and devout people of a belief that existence will end because of the gas giant that is doing nothing at all...Wow, I'm blown away in amazement!

Also, that addition of a music video snippet at the end was icing on the cake. Kinda catchy, by the way.

  23. Good to see clips of "St. Helens" intermixed at the end. Awful, awful movie. Thank god it was remade as "Dante's Peak."
