Somebody didn't watch the video...

  2. There's so much wrong with this. The black girl shrinking away from the cop in the first few seconds, the blow-job pantomime, the sikh=sick foible...

    Classic.

  6. If this is directly at Crowley, I don't think it's entirely fair. Plus there's something larger at play with that story...http://lifeinsidethebeltway.com/2009/07/stanley-fish-gets-the-obama-gates-crowley-story-right-the-birther-connection/

  7. Nick-
Actually we started working on this video over a month ago.

Chicago police are known for acting with impunity (in Illinois? I know, shocking). Recently a cop was given probation for beating a bartender half his size so badly she had to be hospitalized (he was off duty at the time). Her crime? Cutting him off. Here's a summary from HuffPo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/23/ex-cop-anthony-abbate-get_n_219651.html

So this was originally conceived as a comment on the CPD specifically. The Gates/Crowley incident was just a fortuitous coincidence.

  10. While there's a lot of fail in the videos about Hispanics (including having to make points about respecting Mexicans like, 5 times) I did think it was good that they took the time to insist that officers respect transgender dress and avoid comments about it. It's basic good manners, but from the anecdotes you hear, a lot of American cops don't naturally come by attitudes of respect for LGBT people, especially transgendered folks. I was surprised they even included something like that.

I wasn't even aware there was an (inaccurate) stereotype that you shouldn't shake hands with Sikhs. Maybe because I grew up around a lot of Sikhs? Weird.

  11. As a Chicagoan (and a Brownish one - I am Multi Racial with Mexican and Italian as the predominant representation) I have had many run ins with Chicago's Finest.

They have always acted with impunity, used excessive force, conducted themselves like assholes, and generally are the gang of thugs and morons with something to prove that they appear to be.

It's not even so much that I'm brown (and kinda look arab... It sucks, btw) but it's moreso that I'm smart. I ask for badge numbers, don't refuse to accept their logic at every turn, question them on it and turn their minds over (And get beaten up on the red line while handcuffed as a result...)
I guess that's what I get for being all "Boston Legal" (A precise Quote from 2 different Officers - Who the fuck watches Boston Legal?)

And Oh Yeah, there's a ton of Mexicans - illegal and otherwise - in Chicago and the surrounding areas. Little Mexica is starting to overpower/rival Little Warsaw in this town...
